Region that covers municipalities of Beira Interior and Ribatejo, separated of Alto Alentejo by Tagus river.
Beira land has rarities like the historical villages of Monsanto and Penha Garcia, the thermal area of Monfortinho and the ancient roman city ruins in Idanha-a-Velha. At the boarder created by Tagus river is the Natural Park of International Tagus, a bird nesting area and important mammals’ population.
In turn, in Castelo Branco we recommend a walk by the historical area, with particular reference to the Episcopate Garden. Going up to the Picoto da Milriça in Vila do Rei, the cartographic center of Portugal, can be combined with the opportunity of visiting the Geodesy Museum and appreciate the beautiful view. The amphitheater in Constância, bathed by Tagus, with its alleys and nooks is a must-see.
On Alentejo side, the Natural Park of St. Mamede, inclu- ding Castelo de Vide, with the castle and several dolmens, and Marvão with a convent and an urban
conglomerate within walls, you can enjoy one of the best landscapes of Alentejo. In Portalegre, we suggest to visit the St. Clair Convent, the See and St. Bernard Church. The lagoon (Albufeira) of Montargil, in Ponte de Sor, is another destination very appreciated by water sports enthusiasts.
