This region is located at west of the massif Estrela mountain and around the municipality of Viseu.
The reference elevation is the mountain of Caramulo, where villages with granite houses and granaries are abundant, in a breathtaking landscape with amazing air. There is no lack of walking tours, and we suggest the path of Caleiros that ends at the highest point, Caramulinho. In the neighbourhood, you have the opportunity of visiting the modern art of the Caramulo Museum and next to it, the Automobile Museum.
It’s a region of excellent choices in the thermal area, pointing out the Thermal baths of St. Pedro do Sul, where Egas Moniz got healed, known for its water virtues. At south from Viseu, the Thermals of Alcafache offer a happy combination between traditional thermal baths and the modern SPAs. The panorama is complete in Canas de Senhorim with Caldas da Felgueira and in Aguiar da Beira with Caldas da Cavaca.
There are many good suggestions in this region to visit villages, but we recommend a visit to the medieval Vouzela for a walk by its street, passing by the 12th century Main Church, the bridge of railroad and the Municipal Park. In Viseu, the See is a must, between two romanesque towers and the Grão Vasco Museum with one of the most important collection of national paintings.
